TAKING ACTION

HIS RECORD SPEAKS FOR ITSELF:

A leader in the grassroots campaign in South Gate to recall corrupt elected officials, stabilize the city's financial condition, and rebuild public trust.

As a State Assemblymember he stood up to entrenched political leaders to stop taxpayer-funded giveaways during the worst budget crisis in decades.

Wrote laws to protect healthcare for Californians, including ending the heinous practice of retroactive cancellation of health insurance and increasing the number of doctors in underserved communities.

Leads and serves on Health Care non-profits focusing on increasing care for underserved communities and expanding care during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Works to protect and improve air quality and environmental health through his service on the California Air Resources Board (CARB), where he is an outspoken advocate for environmental justice and combating climate change.

Directs the Gateway Cities Council of Governments, where he works to bring sustainable development and jobs to our local communities.

Built a workforce training and job placement collaborative in Southeast LA County.

Funded first time homebuyer support and affordable multifamily housing in most of the cities in the 41st Congressional District.

Hector led and served health care and public policy nonprofits focused on children's wellness and public health, including as Executive Director of the Gasol Foundation and the Transamerica Center for Health Studies. He served on the boards of LA Care and the California Air Resources Board, where he was an advocate for public health and environmental protection. He most recently served as Executive Director of the Gateway Cities Council of Governments.

Hector lives with his wife in our community, where they raised their three children who attended Downey schools and were active in Downey PTA and the Downey YMCA.
